I did the drawing with pen on a regular sheet of paper, and later scanned it. Then created the bg by using old paper textures and layering faux stains in photoshop.Finally, I multiplied the black ink drawing over top of the paper texture.
Sorry, when I said easier on the eye I just ment that the folders on my desktop are tan and were hard to read against the tan and white dragons. Thats why I changed it to black and red, just easier to see my icons.

This is my new background, only I changed the dragons to red, set against black. Easier on the eyes
